Women's Summit Panel Focuses on Flextime, Staffing

The only way the stigma surrounding female attorneys on flextime schedules will disappear is if firm partners buy in and the attorneys themselves are flexible, according to area law firm leaders.

They were speaking Wednesday on a panel of large law firm leaders at the first Women in the Profession Summit of the Philadelphia Bar Association. . . .

Duane Morris Chairman John Soroko said issues of flextime and part-time scheduling and a work/life balance are not exclusive to female attorneys. He said firms would increasingly have to deal with these issues for both sexes as the next generation of attorneys comes up in the ranks.

Duane Morris started its women's initiative in earnest when it saw the departure of a few senior women partners for judicial positions. He said they realized they needed to start developing younger female attorneys to move up in the ranks.

One thing Soroko said he would like to see improvement on is having partners - particularly female partners - focus on recruiting women attorneys.

"Women partners should be taking the lead in that," he said. . . .
