Duane Morris Partner to Speak on Intellectual Property; Samuel Apicelli Slated to Lead Workshop
MALVERN, PA, NOVEMBER 22 - Duane Morris partner Samuel W. Apicelli will help businesses understand the basics of protecting intellectual property at a workshop in Malvern that is part of the Conference for Science and Technology Entrepreneurs. The event, hosted by Innovation Partnership, is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, December 1 and 2, at Pennsylvania State University's Great Valley campus. Topics include patents and copyrights, risk management and financial management techniques.
Apicelli, who represents and advises clients on all aspects of patent, trademark and copyright procurement and enforcement, is moderating a workshop entitled "Let's Not Give It Away: Understanding the Basics of Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, & Intellectual Property" on December 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
"Explaining any tech business necessarily involves learning the rules of protecting one's own intellectual property and identifying what might constitute infraction of someone else's," said Apicelli. "A basic business knowledge of patents, trademarks and copyrights can help entrepreneurs understand the opportunities and the minefields."
Other speakers include Dr. Jay Apt, executive director of the Carnegie Mellon Electricity Industry Center at Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business.
Apicelli is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Apicelli is also Vice Chairman of the Board of Advisors for the Kutztown University Small Business Development Center. He has written and prosecuted more than 350 patents in a variety of technical disciplines related to mechanical and electrical engineering, and has been awarded two patents for his own inventions.
Prior to practicing law, he was Director of Engineering for Asia/Pacific operations at AMP Inc. He is a 1993 graduate of the Franklin Pierce Law Center, as well as a graduate of Bates College.
