Michael D. Grohman Named Chair of Estates and Asset Planning at Duane Morris
NEW YORK, February 6, 2008 - Michael D. Grohman, a partner in the New York office of Duane Morris LLP, has been named chair of the firm's Estates and Asset Planning Practice Group. The appointment was announced today by firm Chairman John Soroko.
Grohman succeeds Frank Cooper in the leadership role. Chair of the practice since 1994, Cooper was instrumental in creating DM Trust Company in 2007, a firm ancillary business which helps clients navigate through the increasingly difficult process of transferring their foreign trust assets into domestic accounts. Cooper has often been listed in Worth magazine as one of the top 100 lawyers in the country in the field of estate planning.
"Michael Grohman is an accomplished lawyer who is widely respected throughout the firm and has a deep understanding of the practice group and the clients it serves," Soroko said. "I am confident that the practice will continue to flourish under his leadership."
"Frank worked tirelessly to build a solid and very profitable practice group in an area many other large firms had abandoned," said Grohman. "He has given Duane Morris everything it needs to continue the group's growth into new and exciting areas."
One of the areas Grohman plans to leverage is the group's service to international clients, strengthened by DM Trust Company. "We initially opened the trust company to handle a few select clients," explained Grohman. "But we have found a whole new range of services we intend to use in order to continue to grow."
Grohman practices in tax, estate planning and estate and trust administration law, with a particular emphasis on estate planning for professional athletes and for owners of closely held businesses. In 2007, Grohman was also named in Worth magazine's annual listing of the top 100 attorneys in the United States for estate planning.
Grohman received his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1993 and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1983. He received his B.S. from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
