Duane Morris Partner Sheila Hollis Named Finalist for Platts Global Energy Lifetime Achievement Award
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 20, 2009—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that Sheila Slocum Hollis, a partner in the Energy, Environment and Resources Practice Group and chair of the firm's Washington, D.C. office, is a finalist to receive a lifetime achievement award as part of the 11th Annual Platts Global Energy Awards. She is the only practicing attorney to be named a finalist in any of the award categories. The winner will be revealed at a December 3 ceremony in New York.
The Platts Global Energy Awards recognize outstanding vision and achievement in the global energy industry. A leading provider of energy-market news and information, Platts established the awards in 1999 to highlight the contributions of individuals, community supporters and corporations to the energy world. The lifetime achievement award is presented to individuals whose achievements are "the product of a long and varied career of service, creativity, and insight," and who have gained "widespread recognition and respect on the global stage," according to the Platts website. The finalists were chosen from more than 200 entrants in over 30 countries by an impartial panel of energy experts, regulators, corporate executives, academics and legislators.
Hollis practices in the areas of energy transactional and regulatory law, as well as international and administrative law before government agencies, Congress and other entities. She focuses on domestic and international energy, water and environmental matters, representing governmental bodies and the power and natural gas industries. Hollis has extensive energy policy and regulatory experience, having served as the founding director of the Office of Enforcement of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and as a trial attorney for the Federal Power Commission. A fellow of the American Bar Association, she holds numerous leadership positions, including chair of the Board of Editors of the ABA Journal and chair of the Standing Committee on Gavel Awards. She is the first woman to be president of the Energy Bar Association and serves in the ABA's House of Delegates, where her committee service includes the Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary. Hollis recently completed a three-year term as chair of the Council of the ABA Fund for Justice and Education, the ABA's charitable arm, and she has received numerous awards and honors in recent years. At Duane Morris, she also serves on the firm's Executive Committee and Partners Board. Hollis earned her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law and graduated, cum laude, in general studies and with honors in journalism from the University of Colorado.
