LONDON, August 21, 2023―Mark Handley has joined Duane Morris LLP as a partner in the firm’s Trial Practice Group in its London office. Prior to joining Duane Morris, Handley was a partner at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP.

Handley is a seasoned litigator and solicitor-advocate in the English courts, with a practice that focuses on cross-border commercial litigation, commercial and investment treaty arbitration, as well as financial crime compliance and investigations. In litigation, he has extensive experience in the various divisions of the High Court, especially the Commercial Court, the Chancery Division, the Administrative Court and the Technology and Construction Court. His appellate experience includes the English Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. His experience extends to litigation in offshore financial centers such as the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, the Dubai International Financial Centre, Gibraltar and Jersey. He acts in both investment treaty arbitrations as well as commercial arbitrations, and has experience of all the major arbitral rules including ICSID, UNCITRAL, LCIA and ICC, and the LMAA Terms. He has particular experience with litigation in the English courts in support of arbitration; whether challenging awards, seeking anti-suit or anti-arbitration injunctions, freezing orders, enforcement and other matters. His sectoral experience includes oil and gas, mining, telecoms, infrastructure and transport, financial services and shipping.
In the field of white-collar defense, Handley has particular experience in the areas of financial and trade sanctions, as well as the U.K. Bribery Act, anti-money laundering, fraud and financial crime generally. He regularly speaks and publishes on these areas. While his sanctions practice has a focus on Russia, Iran and Libya, he has advised on most of the U.K. and EU sanctions regimes, as well as on the EU/U.K. blocking statutes. He has presided over a range of advisory matters, internal investigations, risk assessments and compliance reviews, and advises on policies and procedures, contractual provisions, and mergers and acquisitions due diligence.
