Duane Morris Partner Paul Killion Appointed to California State Bar's Committee on Appellate Courts
SAN FRANCISCO, June 10, 2011—Duane Morris San Francisco partner Paul J. Killion has been appointed to the California State Bar's Committee on Appellate Courts, which is comprised of 16 attorneys appointed by the board of governors. He will serve a three-year term, to expire in 2014.
The committee is responsible for analyzing proposed appellate court rules, legislation and other proposals as well as for providing reports and proposals on its findings to the board of governors. It is also an approved legal specialization provider in the area of appellate law, and plans and participates in the presentation of educational programs designed to foster improvement in appellate practice and awareness of relevant issues.
Killion is a certified appellate specialist and practices in the areas of civil litigation and appellate matters. He has handled a variety of litigation and appeals, including significant national experience in asbestos, pollution and toxic tort insurance coverage litigation. He has appeared before all districts of the California Courts of Appeal and before the California Supreme Court, as well as the Ninth and Tenth Circuits and both the Washington and Oregon supreme courts.
Killion is a co-author of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) national publication, A Defense Lawyer's Guide to Appellate Practice (DRI 2004). Since 2003, he has served on the Jury Instruction Committee of the State Bar Litigation Section, providing comments on the California Approved Civil Instructions. He is an active member of the Appellate committees of the Bar Association of San Francisco and DRI. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law and a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
