Duane Morris Newark Leader Walter J. Greenhalgh Certified in Business Bankruptcy Law
NEWARK, April 28 - The American Board of Certification announced that Walter J. Greenhalgh, managing partner of the Newark office of law firm Duane Morris LLP, and one of the senior members of its Business Reorganization and Financial Restructuring Practice Group, has achieved national certification in business bankruptcy law.
Greenhalgh practices in the areas of bankruptcy law and litigation, insolvency law and chapter 11 corporate and commercial reorganization. He has served as a member of several bankruptcy law-related organizations, including as past chair of the executive committee of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He was a "founding master" of the Bankruptcy Inn of Court, one of only two Inns of Court in the United States dedicated to bankruptcy practice.
Greenhalgh is only the eighth New Jersey bankruptcy lawyer to be certified out of more than 600 in the state. He is also only one of several hundred in the country to be certified by the ABC in business bankruptcy law, out of the more than 18,000 lawyers focused on bankruptcy in the United States.
A 1971 graduate of St. Peter's College in New Jersey, Greenhalgh earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1974.
To become certified, Mr. Greenhalgh satisfied requirements that included:
- Passing an extensive, day-long written examination covering business bankruptcy issues;
- Documenting involvement in business bankruptcy by providing information on cases;
- Devoting more than 30 percent of practice time and at least 400 hours to bankruptcy-related matters in the last three years;
- Demonstrating commitment to continuing legal education by earning at least 60 hours of bankruptcy education in the past five years.
The ABC is co-sponsored by the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America. The ABC Board of Directors consists of many of the nation's finest bankruptcy and creditors' rights professionals.
