Press Release
Litigator Robert Hopkins Joins Duane Morris' Baltimore Office
BALTIMORE, May 20, 2008 - Duane Morris LLP is pleased to welcome Robert B. Hopkins as a partner in the firm's Baltimore office. Formerly a principal at Ober, Kaler, Grimes and Shriver, Hopkins joins Duane Morris' Trial Practice Group. He is the second new partner to join the firm's Baltimore office since March, when Ray Shepard, another former Ober Kaler principal, also joined the Trial Practice Group.
The firm's Baltimore office has experienced steady growth since its inception in December 2006. The founding team, which consisted of lawyers from the Baltimore office of DLA Piper, focuses on corporate, securities law, mergers and acquisitions, complex financial transactions and international transactions, and has recorded more than $1 billion worth of deals since the office opened.
Hopkins concentrates on civil litigation, representing clients in matters involving transportation, commercial, product and international disputes. In addition, he has extensive experience representing U.S. and international companies before government agencies, including the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Homeland Security and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Hopkins has counseled clients before the CPSC on large-scale product recalls as well as regulatory and compliance matters. He is also experienced in maritime law, representing ship owners and shipping companies in civil actions.
He is vice president of American Maritime Cases and a board member of both the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Admiralty Law Institute. In April, he was appointed as a commissioner on the Baltimore City Planning Commission by Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon. He has written articles and spoken to numerous trade groups on product and transportation issues.
Admitted to practice in Maryland, Hopkins earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1988 and graduated with a B.A. from Trinity College in 1985.
