SAN FRANCISCO, February 1, 2013—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that partners Richard Seabolt and Terrance Evans of the firm's San Francisco office have been appointed leadership positions within the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (ABTL). Seabolt has been named president of the chapter for 2013 and will serve a one-year term, while Evans has been named chair of the of the chapter's Leadership Development Committee.
The organization, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, is dedicated to providing a collegial forum for the bench and bar to discuss business litigation issues and offering legal education programs and publications. The Northern California Chapter, the largest of the organization's five chapters, annually hosts dinner programs and networking opportunities throughout the Bay Area, and co-hosts a multi-day annual seminar with the other ABTL chapters that includes presentations by lawyers, scholars and judges from across the United States. The chapter has 1,700 members and a board of governors composed of 48 lawyers and judges.
Seabolt is co-head of the Commercial, Securities and Antitrust division of Duane Morris' Trial Practice Group. He practices in the area of litigation, with a focus on complex trials and appeals arising from commercial disputes, including those involving technology, construction and insurance. He has successfully defended various class actions, and recently obtained dismissals of two significant class actions following pre-trial motions.
Evans is a partner in the Trial Practice Group and concentrates his practice in representing the financial services industry, which includes international, national and community banks; loan service companies; and insurance companies. During his career, he has both recovered and saved clients of the firm tens of millions of dollars in settlements, judgments and extrajudicial procedures. With respect to the insurance industry, Evans concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation and policy interpretation and analysis. He has represented commercial primary, excess and umbrella insurers in a wide range of multimillion-dollar cases, including declaratory relief, bad faith, rescission, subrogation, indemnity, additional insurance, interpleader and reformation actions. Evans has served as national coordinating counsel and monitoring counsel for insurance companies evaluating multi-jurisdictional claims where the exposure was estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
