Duane Morris Partner Robert L. Byer Named the Pittsburgh Best Lawyers Appellate Lawyer of the Year for 2011
PITTSBURGH, March 15, 2011—Duane Morris partner Robert L. Byer was selected as the Pittsburgh Best Lawyers “Appellate Lawyer of the Year” for 2011. Byer received particularly high ratings among his peers in the Best Lawyers survey for his abilities, professionalism and integrity. Only a single lawyer in each practice area in each community was honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.”
Byer, who is head of the Appellate division of the firm’s Trial Practice Group, concentrates his practice in appellate and legal-issues litigation. His experience covers a wide range of legal areas, including corporate governance; intellectual property; administrative agency law; tax cases; constitutional law; insurance coverage contracts; professional liability; products liability and toxic torts. Mr. Byer is a former judge of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court and Pennsylvania Court of Judicial Discipline. As an appellate lawyer, he has argued or briefed approximately 180 appeals in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fifth, Eighth, Ninth, Eleventh, District of Columbia and Federal Circuits; the Pennsylvania appellate courts and the appellate courts of California, Maryland and Washington. In addition, Byer has briefed and worked on appeals in the U.S. Supreme Court.
