Duane Morris advises family offices on all aspects of their business activities, including investments in private equity, venture capital and hedge funds, as well as in real estate. In particular, as family offices engage in and focus on direct investments, we regularly assist family offices in structuring their direct business acquisitions, as well as advising on strategy with regard to sourcing co-investments, diligence, deal structures, and compensation of deal professionals.
Our Family Office practice group works in conjunction with our Corporate Private Equity, Private Investment Funds, Real Estate, Tax and Private Client Services practices to address the full range of issues family offices face, including capital growth and preservation, management and generational transfers of wealth. We advise on estate planning, charitable planning, tax and reporting issues. We assist with complex multinational tax issues relating to family members residing in multiple countries, including structuring domestic and offshore trusts, advising on U.S. tax reporting rules and settling estates with property in multiple jurisdictions.
Our attorneys host industry roundtables to discuss issues of relevance to family offices and provide an opportunity for family members and their professionals to share information and experiences with their peers. Our attorneys are also sought-after speakers at various conferences, including Opal Financial Group’s Family Office Winter Forum and the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) New York’s Family Office Conference. A co-chair of our practice is a past chair of ACG Global, and another co-chair is a long-standing member of ACG New York’s Family Office Committee.
