PHILADELPHIA, April 4, 2024—Duane Morris LLP has named partner Mary P. Hansen as co-chair of the firm’s White-Collar Criminal Defense, Corporate Investigations and Regulatory Compliance Division of the Trial Practice Group. Hansen joins partner William M. McSwain, who became co-chair in January. She succeeds partner Eric Breslin, who has been co-chair of the division since 2017.

“Our white-collar division has long been important to our Trial practice group, and having an extensive ability to advise our clients on these most complex and vital matters continues to be a priority,” said Duane Morris Chairman and CEO Matthew A. Taylor. “With her time at the SEC and her deep experience in private practice, Mary is uniquely positioned to help lead this group in defending clients in an increasingly active and complex regulatory and legal landscape. We’re excited to have her and Bill at the forefront to continue the legacy that Eric and others have so skillfully built.”

Hansen defends clients in connection with investigations and litigation involving state and federal financial regulatory agencies, including the SEC, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the National Futures Association and the Department of Justice. She counsels investment advisers, broker-dealers, financial services industry clients, and public and private companies in federal and state regulatory investigations and leads internal corporate investigations involving potential violations of federal securities law and other executive or employee misconduct. Hansen also counsels clients with respect to compliance policies, procedures and strategies. She previously served as supervisor in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement.

“White-collar and government investigations and litigations are high-stress, high-stakes situations for our clients,” said Hansen. “I’m pleased to be able to help lead a team of talented attorneys that can help guide our clients through these often mission-critical circumstances,” said Hansen.

Hansen is a graduate of St. John’s University School of Law (J.D., magna cum laude), where she was a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review and the Criminal Law Institute, and the State University of New York at Albany (B.A.).  She served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie in the federal district court for the Eastern District of New York.  Prior to law school, she worked in various internal audit, compliance and management roles for a large international broker-dealer.
