SAN DIEGO AND LOS ANGELES, September 1, 2011—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that Michael L. Lipman has joined the firm's White-Collar Criminal Defense, Corporate Investigations and Regulatory Compliance Practice Group as a partner in its San Diego office. Lipman, who will also practice out of Duane Morris Los Angeles office, brings extensive experience in the area of white-collar criminal defense, and his addition strengthens the firm's growing national white-collar practice. He joins Duane Morris from Coughlan, Semmer & Lipman LLP.

Lipman has focused his practice for 28 years on all aspects of white-collar criminal defense and related civil litigation as well as regulatory and licensing matters. He represents individuals and entities in matters involving securities, insider trading, healthcare billing fraud, criminal tax matters, government procurement and contract fraud, criminal environmental violations, financial institution fraud, criminal antitrust violations, political corruption, campaign and election law violations and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act cases. Lipman also represents clients in civil False Claims Act cases, Securities and Exchange Commission proceedings, California Medical Board or State Bar licensing proceedings, and suspension and debarment/exclusion proceedings.

Lipman has tried more than 50 jury trials, and has briefed and argued numerous cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit as well as the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division and the New York Court of Appeals. He has conducted or participated in numerous internal investigations for both private and public entities, and has prepared and assisted in making presentations involving voluntary disclosures and amnesty applications to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Defense, and Environmental Protection Agency.

Prior to starting his private practice, Lipman was an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Diego, where he served as chief of the Special Prosecutions and Fraud Unit from 1980 to 1983. In that role, he received the DOJ's "Director's Award" for his service. Lipman was previously an assistant district attorney in the Bronx District Attorney's Office, later becoming deputy counsel to the National Commission for the Review of Federal and State Laws Relating to Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance in Washington, D.C.

Lipman is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He has served as an attorney representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. A founding board member of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Lipman has taught Federal Crimes at the University of San Diego Law School, as well as trial practice at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He has also lectured and been a panel member on both California Continuing Education of the Bar and American Bar Association programs dealing with white-collar criminal issues.

Lipman earned his J.D. in 1971 from Columbia University and earned his B.A. from S.U.N.Y. Buffalo in 1968. He is admitted to practice in California and New York.
