Duane Morris has added a 12-lawyer group, including seven partners, that almost doubles the size of its Newark, New Jersey, office. The newcomers come from Florham Park, New Jersey-based McCusker Anselmi Rosen & Carvelli and focuses the bulk of their work on employment and environmental matters, as well as commercial litigation. Duane Morris Chairman Matt Taylor said among the key initiatives outlined in a strategic plan produced by the firm in 2018 and 2019 was to grow its presence in the New York metro area as well as attract marquee talent. [...]

"New York is still the epicenter of the world," Taylor said. "So when you are powerful there, that's good for Duane Morris and its clients. And it does make the firm more attractive to laterals." [...]

Taylor said Duane Morris lawyers have known John McCusker and his team for several years. He said conversations began because McCusker was looking for a broader platform that 825-lawyer Duane Morris could provide. While McCusker's team works with some large clients, it usually only handles employment and environmental work. Taylor said they will now be able to cross-sell the full assortment of practice capabilities at Duane Morris.
